Vertical Integration of Research and Education (VIGRE)

Summer Research Opportunity for Undergraduates

There are several ongoing research projects for students interested in computing, statistics, and biology. The projects are interdisciplinary in nature, and focus on the statistical modeling of high-throughput biological data. Here is a sampling of possible topics:

  1. Use of regression methods to analyze the relationship between gene expression and promoter sequence.
  2. Statistical significance analysis of non-coding DNA alignments.
  3. Application of hidden markov models and smoothing techniques to the analysis of DNA copy number data.
  4. Microarrays and Cancer

Students should have taken Stat141, Stat191 or Stat202, and be familiar with either R or Matlab. The time frame is flexible, and is expected to last about 8 weeks, from mid-June to mid-August.
