Job Description
The Computer Systems Specialist will report to the Computer Committees
in the Department of Statistics as well as Health Research and
Policy. The candidate will be supervised by a Senior Research
Scientist and assisted by student research assistants in the
Departments. He/She will be responsible for providing Research
Computing infrastructure, security, and application support to the
Department of Statistics at Stanford. The computing environments will
include Linux, Windows and Mac OS X systems. Scientific and publishing
applications will need to be supported on the systems.
Position responsibilities include traditional Systems Administration
tasks such as:
- Installing, maintaining and supporting software and hardware
- Ensuring systems are secure with appropriate, up-to-date patches and
configured using best practices
- Ensuring that data backups occur regularly
- Maintaining user accounts
- Managing network issues
- Providing accurate and timely information on changes and problems
and effectively communicating with members of the department
Qualifications
Experience working in a research and technical environment. Good
oral and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills.
Candidates with a bachelors or masters degree in the sciences are
encouraged to apply. This position can be structured as a half-time
appointment.
