How t0 Apply

External Applicants
Visit Graduate Admissions for instructions on completing the online application or requesting a paper application.


We must receive all supporting material for online applications and all materials for those submitting paper applications in our office by the application deadline.


Mail all materials to:

     Statistics Admissions
     Department of Statistics - Sequoia Hall
     390 Serra Mall
     Stanford University
     Stanford, CA 94305-4065


Do not send materials Registered or Signature Required -- they will be refused.

Do not send any materials to Graduate Admissions in the Registrar.

 

Current Stanford Students

To add the MS while pursuing another graduate degree OR to coterm:

To demonstrate qualifications, you should first take two courses in Statistics.

Documents to submit:
Coterms -
1. Procedures and Application Forms for Coterminal Students Forms must be signed by the student's current department.
2. Current unofficial Stanford transcript printed from Axess.

Graduate students -
1. Graduate Program Authorization Petition Form must be signed by the student's current department.

2. One official transcript of your undergraduate degree, and a current unofficial Stanford transcript printed from Axess.

3. Enrollment Agreement for Students with Multiple Programs if applicable (for students enrolled in Engineering, GSB, Law, Medicine). Form must be signed by the student's current department.

4. Program Proposal for a Master's Degree List the 45 units you have taken/will take to fulfill degree requirements.

Make an appointment to see one of the Master's Advisors:

    Last names beginning A -L -- see Prof. David Siegmund in Sequoia 142.

    Last names beginning M-Z -- see Prof. Brad Efron in Sequoia 132. 

Letters of recommendation may be required -- the faculty advisors will inform you if you need to submit recommendations.


To apply to the PhD:

Statistics MS students: Please notify Amy Duncan of your intention to apply. 

Documents to submit:

1. Graduate Program Authorization Petition

2. Updated statement of purpose

3. GRE Mathematics Subject test results

4. Ask three or four of your instructors for a recommendation letter (addressed to Admissions Committee Chair) concerning your performance in their course. If they do not wish to write a formal letter, they can send an email to Amy -- her email is aduncan @ stanford.edu

5. Current unofficial Stanford transcript printed from Axess.
 

Graduate students in other departments: Before applying, you should take two courses in Statistics. 

Documents to submit:
1. Graduate Program Authorization Petition Form must be signed by the student's current department. Submit the form to Amy Duncan (Sequoia Hall Room 222).
2. Statement of purpose
3. GRE Mathematics Subject test results
4. Ask three or four of your instructors to send Amy Duncan a brief email (addressed to Admissions Committee Chair) concerning your performance in their course. Amy's email is aduncan @ stanford.edu
5. Current unofficial Stanford transcript printed from Axess.
6. one official transcript of your previous degree(s)
7.Have a copy of your original application materials forwarded to Amy Duncan.
